As long as you have not emptied the Trash, you can restore a file that you have deleted. Clicking on the Trash folder icon on the Dock displays all of the files that reside in the Trash folder.
Unlike other folders, you cannot open a file that is in Trash. For instance, double-clicking a file usually opens that file in the application with which it is associated. However, if we double-click the castle.jpg file that we moved to the Trash, folder, we would receive the following message:
To restore a file from the Trash, simply select the file and then drag it out of the Trash to the folder where you wish to file to be stored. To restore the file to its original location, right-click the file in the Trash folder and choose Put Back from the contextual menu.
To Restore a Deleted File or a Folder
- Click the Trash icon on the Dock.
- Click the file you wish to restore.
- With the mouse button held down, drag it to the destination folder.
- To restore a file to its original location, right-click the file and choose Put Back from the contextual menu.
