Using the Rotate Button in Preview

by on January 28, 2012

I often find myself rotating images in Preview so I decided that it would be easier for me to add the Rotate button to the toolbar.  This trick to customize the toolbar works in many OS X applications.

To add the Rotate button to the Preview toolbar:

  1. Right-click on any blank area of the toolbar.
  2. Click “Customize Toolbar” from the contextual menu.
  3. Click the Rotate button and drag it to the toolbar.

Another tip regarding the Rotate button.  Each time you click the icon, it rotates 90 degrees to the right.  If you wish to rotate to the left instead, hold down the Option key as you click.

If you prefer the keyboard, use the ⌘ + L keyboard shortcut to rotate to the left, or the ⌘ + R shortcut to rotate to the right.
